This policy explains what data Know My Postcode collects, why, and what your rights are. It is written to be read rather than skimmed past, so it is deliberately short.
The short version: there are no accounts and we never ask for your name, address or email. We do not store the postcodes you search. We use Google Analytics to count visits and Google AdSense to show ads, both of which set cookies. You can refuse those cookies and the site will still work.
Know My Postcode is an independent site operated by Alex Fryer in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR, the site operator is the data controller. You can reach us at alexfryer0110@gmail.com.
The only thing you type into this site is a postcode. It is sent to the data providers listed in section 4 so we can build your report. We do not store it, log it against you, or link it to your identity. There is no sign-up, no account, and no contact form that asks for personal details.
| Data | Why | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| IP address (in server logs) | Security, and rate-limiting our own API endpoints to prevent abuse | Held transiently in memory; not written to a persistent database |
| Browser type, device, referring page | Analytics — understanding which pages are useful | Per Google Analytics retention settings |
| Pages viewed and approximate location | Analytics and ad relevance | Per Google Analytics retention settings |
We use two categories of cookie:
If you are in the UK, EEA or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent prompt before any non-essential cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time. Where you do not consent, ads are served in non-personalised form and analytics cookies are not set.
You can opt out of personalised advertising across all participating sites at Google Ads Settings or optout.aboutads.info. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies in their settings.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
To build a report, your postcode (or the coordinates it resolves to) is sent to the following public data services. Each has its own privacy policy and we have no control over how they log requests.
We also load fonts from Google Fonts and map tiles from CARTO/OpenStreetMap, which receive your IP address as a necessary part of delivering those files.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Because we do not hold accounts or store search history, in practice there is usually very little personal data of yours for us to act on — but if you would like us to try, email alexfryer0110@gmail.com and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Reports are generated from public data sources and are provided for general information only. They are not a survey, a valuation, or financial, legal or property advice. Data can be out of date or incomplete, and crime and price figures in particular vary street by street. Always verify anything important independently before making a decision.
If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date above will change. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
